John Huston

John HustonJohn Huston has distinguished himself as one of the most exciting and expressive guitarists of his generation. Guitart International has praised him as "a formidable talent" and La Stampa has called his playing "...mesmerizing."

In his youth, the Southern Arts Foundation hailed him "...one of the finest young guitarists today", and Mr. Huston won numerous accolades for his performances. He won First Prize in the 2001 Aranjuez Strings International Guitar Competition. He has also been a top prize winner in the Concours International de Guitare de Lachine, the American String Teachers Association National Guitar Competition, the National Federation of Music Clubs Guitar Competition and the East Carolina University National Guitar Competition.

Mr. Huston has released two CD recordings: Three Centuries of Music for the Classical Guitar and Nocturno. Guitart International hailed Nocturno as "a truly satisfying CD with great depth and a program rich in diversity with much to say... devastatingly beautiful and challenging... the performance is at once expansive and yet conveys the intimacy required for sustained interest."

John Huston holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Georgia, a Masters degree in Music from Georgia State University and a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Iowa. Throughout his career Mr. Huston has been specially featured in Master Classes with world-renowned guitarists Manuel Barrueco, Eduardo Fernandez, Eliot Fisk, Roland Dyens, William Kanengiser, and Sharon Isbin.

While concertizing in North America and Europe as a soloist, and in guitar duo with Richard Todd, Mr. Huston has performed with a variety of ensembles in recent years, including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera, the Morehouse and Spelman College choirs, the Chamber Music Society of Atlanta, the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, and the Athens Chamber Singers. He has also been active as a teacher, having served on the faculties of Georgia State University, Berry College, the Georgia Academy of Music and The Summer Classical Guitar Seminar at Tennessee State University in Nashville.

Mr. Huston currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, in the historic neighborhood of Inman Park, with his wife and young son. When not playing music, he enjoys biking, yoga and cooking.
